The qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to work in accordance with industry requirements in various areas of the recycling collection and segregation industry, including supervisory and management roles and Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE). It also forms the competence component of the Sustainable Resource Management Apprenticeship.
Anyone who works, or wants to work, in the recycling industry.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed such as:

  • collecting recyclables
  • sorting and preparing recyclables for processing.

You will learn on the job in the work environment and complete a portfolio of evidence for each unit.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 1
Those just entering or fairly new to the recycling industry.

Level 2
Learners working in the recycling industry and wanting to develop their skills in processing, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) segregation and have them formally recognised.

Level 3
Experienced workers within the recycling industry wishing to move into a supervisory role.

Level 4
Experienced workers within the recycling industry wishing to move into a managerial role or have official recognition of their specialist and management skills.

Qualification can lead to jobs in the recycling industry, from collection and segregation to supervisory and management roles.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the NVQ in Recycling Operations (0738) can gain fast-track approval.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.

Level 3

This level is ideal for experienced workers within the recycling industry wishing to move into a supervisory role.

The Diploma in Sustainable Recycling Activities (Supervisory) comprises mandatory and optional units, including:
  • promote sustainability and environmental good practice in the recycling industry
  • set objectives and provide support for team members
  • monitor and maintain the security of recycling facilities
  • control maintenance and other engineering operations for recycling activities.
